Located far away in Katavi region about 35km southwest of Mpanda, the namesake national park is less frequented by regular visitors, therefore, is an ideal destination for adventure seekers. The third largest national park in Tanzania, Katavi’s highlight is the 425-sq-km of grassy expanse known as katisunga Plain, at the heart of the Park. Chances of spotting sable antelopes and roan are much higher here. Due to small rivers and huge swamps in the area, hippos and crocodiles are a common sight too. For birdwatchers, there are around 400 species of birds that can be seen in Katavi National Park. Although the Number of Visitors to Katavi is very less, there are great lodging options vailable here. More popular with backpackers, Katavi is one of the top 10 things to do in Tanzania if you have plenty of time in hand.
